New Target Archery Music Video – ‘Scarecrow’

Target ArcheryFollowing on from the release of the gorgeous new album, Clock of the Long Now, by Perth-based instrumental pop outfit Target Archery, we’re excited to share the beautiful new music video for album track ‘Scarecrow’. The music video was produced and directed by Chad Peacock (Peacock Visuals). Clock of the Long Now is available now in digital (free download!) and vinyl formats.

Ambrose Nock explores the fertile realm of delicate, experimental post-pop with his new project Target Archery. Influenced by the likes of Sound Dust-era Stereolab, left-of-centre indie-pop bands such as Lacto-Ovo, The Go! Team and Ninetynine, and a dash of late ’80s Sonic Youth, Target Archery mine an inspiring new seam of life-affirming melodies and instrumental texture. Featuring contributions from Apricot Rail members Justin Manzano (production and instrumentation) and Jack Quirk (guitars), Clock of the Long Now was crafted in an isolated studio in rural Western Australia over a period of three years. Across 40 blissful minutes, Target Archery weave a suite of glimmering musical tapestries that expand beyond the borders of conventional guitar pop.

As with all Hidden Shoal releases, Target Archery’s music is available for licensing (film, tv, games, compilations). Contact Hidden Shoal for more info.

New Willem Gator Single From Forthcoming Album!

Locked In Syndrome Cover ArtCloser’ is the first taste of the sublime Locked-In Syndrome, the fifth album by Italian electronic producer Willem Gator (also of Italian post rock behemoth HC-B). Check out the awesome music video by Riccardo Napoli from Sunthetic (and HC-B) and stream the track ahead of the album release on the 1st of December.

“Willem Gator focuses on the larger impact. Letting each song gradually increase in emotional intensity helping it incorporate both rock and electronic aspects.”Beach Slot

Across its concise 40-minute run-time, Locked-In Syndrome deploys its beats and synths for maximum impact, creating an eminently danceable yet deeply melancholic experience. Conveying the overwhelming experience of being at a hedonistic celebration and feeling profoundly detached and alone, these electronic paeans to dislocation scale the musical skies while plumbing the emotional lows. The album features stunning artwork by English collage artist and musician Ashley Reaks.

Stunning New Kramies Single and Music Video

I Wish I Missed YouIn the spring of 2017, dream-folklore artist Kramies, travelled to Shankill Castle, Ireland where he started writing new songs for an upcoming album, immersed in the beautiful landscapes of his surroundings. While writing, he created a selection of B-side songs alongside songs for a new album. A few of these B-sides were demoed in this historic castle while using simple equipment to capture the ancient environment. Kramies’ new single “I Wish I Missed You” is one of these songs. The song is available as a free download via Kramies’ Bandcamp. The track’s accompanying music video was directed by Hidden Shoal’s Cam Merton.

Along with his critically acclaimed EP The Wooden Heart, produced by Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) & Todd Tobias (Guided by Voices), Kramies has worked and performed with known artists such as Grandaddy, Clexico, and Spiritualized.

New Slow Dancing Society EP – “Ballads for the Boudoir”

Ballads for the BoudoirFollowing on from the reissue of his acclaimed debut album The Sound of Lights When Dim, and the Lilac Lullabies, The Best Days of Our Lives and Night Takes Day EPs, Drew Sullivan presents Ballads for the Boudoir, the last in a series of four new Slow Dancing Society EPs. Each EP has been released digitally, one per month from June to September 2017, with the four EPs released on double vinyl later in the year. All four EP’s in the series are available now via Bandcamp and all good third party digital retailers.

Much like 2014’s The Dusk Recital EP, Ballads for the Boudoir marries SDS ambience with a more sensual, soul-inflected direction, coloured by restrained rhythms, atmospheric sax and warm synth tones. Ballads for the Boudoir has the feel of mid-career Roxy Music, with its romantic, dreamy style. From the downbeat dub-soul of opener ‘An Invitation’ through to the crystalline rhythm guitar work of closer ‘The Melting Sky’, Ballads for the Boudoir is a soft-focus closing chapter to this seductive suite of EPs.

As with all Hidden Shoal releases, Slow Dancing Society’s music is available for licensing (film, tv, games, compilations). Contact Hidden Shoal for more info.

New AWMA Vinyl Release!

AWMAHidden Shoal is proud to announce the release of ‘Sterling Hayden and the Great Nobility’, the ten minute single by expansive guitar outfit AWMA (A Woman My Age), a trio made up of ex-members of the San Francisco-based slowcore outfit Half Film. The track is available as a limited edition 12” vinyl and digital download via Bandcamp.

Right from the opening notes of delayed guitar and the warm thrum of bass, ‘Sterling Hayden and the Great Nobility’ establishes itself as a songscape that’s in it for the long haul. The spacious six- and four-string interplay creates a gorgeous atmosphere, through which the drums steadily surge, like car headlights through fog. It’s not until five minutes in that Conor Devlin’s voice colours the song with impressionistic invocations, before the back half builds in intensity with fuzz bass and then reaches a cymbal-washed climax. The song was recorded in one take by Monte Vallier at Ruminator Audio in San Francisco. No one in the band remembers anything about the origin of the title…

As with all Hidden Shoal releases, AWMA’s music is available for licensing (film, tv, games, compilations). Contact Hidden Shoal for more info.
