“The record label names Rachel’s, Satie, Sufjan Stevens, Elliot Smith and John Adams as references for the fourth album, Arc Iris, from Queens dwelling artist Liam Singer, but that only half fills the picture. One can’t help but throw in a few more Big Pop comparisons: Beach Boys, Jesus Couldn’t Drum, and yeah, Badly Drawn Boy. Singer is a pop aficionado with experimental heart. Pieces like “the Astronaut” make you wish you’d see them mounted on the stage like a musical with a choir, orchestra, potpourri, and playfulness. A lot of puerility, a field full of flowers, a sky full of violins. Wonderful, bacchanalian, multi-instrumental, experimentally friendly pop. Glorious.”
