“Dutch-American singer-songwriters may be in relatively short supply, although if the Jason Lytle-inhabited five minutes to comprise Kramies Windt’s Sea Otter Cottage suggest anything, then it’s that we perhaps ought to be aware of way more of them. So long as they even so much as exist… For Sea Otter Cottage succeeds in evoking the wistful, lo-fi grandiosity of Grandaddy’s seminal The Sophtware Slump, as well as the raw viscosity of Craig Nicholls’ more introspective moments and, intermittently, the productional dexterity of Brian DeGraw. It’s a hodgepodge of sonics that perhaps shouldn’t gel all that well together, although as this self-proclaimed ‘Troubadour for Hip City Dwellers’ sings of uncooperative seas that “swallowed us all”, this immersive piece of haute acoustica achieves complete absorption.”
